I'd love to leap right into an epic tale of how this drawing came into being, but I'll have to be honest and admit that there's not a whole lot of that to this one. It's simply that I wanted to draw my part-bird character, Avice, and rather than be productive and finish the WIP of her I posted in August ("The Last Flight"), I started on a whole new one.
What my main purpose was for this was to exemplify how important Lani (the bird-guy there who she falls in love with) is to her. I like how protective his pose looks, with his wings out and sort of flanking her, and of course, her own arms are crossed against her because she's so defensive and insecure. It also represents how his wings are also hers--he will support her. Avice's wings were cut off, for those of you who don't know her story, so she can't fly. When she meets and falls in love with Lani, one of the longest-established scenes I came up for their story was that he would take her flying again, and "be her wings"--literally and figuratively.
